Meet the Team: Ben Leigh

Meet the team: Ben Leigh

This month marks the introduction of our new Meet the Team feature. We wanted to introduce our amazing team members so you can put a face to the name, learn a little bit about each of them, explore their roles, and find out more about what makes them tick. What better place to start than with Managing Director, Ben Leigh.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m a young and energetic 40-something who enjoys sports, especially football. I’m a big LFC fan, and I never miss a game. Values are of the utmost importance to me, especially honesty. I’m in my element in the kitchen, putting together various cuisines and sampling a wide array of wines. Family is everything to me, and I’m an accomplished dad dancer who thinks he moves like Tony Manero (after a few gins)!

As you’re the Managing Director, how did MEP Resourcing come to be?

Following ten years of gaining recruitment experience within technical markets, I approached Bluestones Investment Group with a business plan to develop a niche M&E-focused business to operate within the construction and engineering sectors. That was six years ago; the rest is history!

In your role, what do you do?

I oversee every aspect of the business, whether it’s the day-to-day operational running of the company, through to financial management and planning. I also enjoy working with my team and putting provisions in place to aid their professional development through mentoring and relevant training.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I’m a great believer in recruiting the right attitude and teaching aptitude, which has proven really successful at MEP Resourcing. The best part of my role is seeing each member of our team grow and become successful within their role.

What is it like working with the rest of the team?

The team is a delight to work with; they bring so much enthusiasm into the office each and every day. Regardless of the challenges we faced almost daily, they tackle everything with gusto and a can-do attitude. Our team respect, support and motivate each other, which is why we have such a great dynamic.

What do you enjoy about working in the M&E sector?

I enjoy working within the construction sector as a whole; however, I particularly appreciate the project’s building services (M&E) sector. I frequently attend site visits and observe projects develop over time, from ground works to handover. As soon as the M&E contractor gets going, they bring the building to life, and it’s a pleasure to come onsite and watch as it evolves and to see the finished product.

What do you enjoy most about working with clients?

Clients are an essential factor in the success of any business; however, the best part of working with closely with clients is developing honest, long-lasting, and mutually beneficial relationships. As a result, many of my clients have become life-long friends. Delivering excellent results for our clients is always the top priority for our business, but getting to know each of them personally is arguably the most enjoyable aspect.

What do you enjoy most about working with candidates?

I enjoy finding exceptional, self-employed candidates and providing them with the work continuity they need to feel financial safe and secure, year-round. Again, we get to build genuine relationships with them as individuals, and so being able to provide them with consecutive years of work is deeply rewarding.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

As mentioned previously, the most important thing to me is my family. Spending quality time with them is my favourite thing to do outside of work. I love going for days out or cooking for them; spending time together around the dinner table is vital to our family. I have a great passion for cooking, and I can spend hours in the kitchen creating a feast to share with my family. I’m a keen sportsman; you can often find me playing golf or playing a weekly seven-a-side fixture with my friends.
